Announcing FanLit Forever – The Writing Game

Filed under: FanLit — aliceaudrey @ 6:37 am

We did it! With a lot of help from ChrisJournal and a little from Krardon we created a web-based board in which to hold our version of Avon’s contest.

The board is great, if I do say so myself. It isn’t simply a place to post a submission or bits of conversation like Yahoo. It has places in which to discuss the publishing industry, places in which to post your personal work in progress, places for every aspect of the game right down to “shameless self promotion”. We even have a chat room!

We are limited by technology, of course. We can’t offer the invite function, though players are welcome to invite anyone they please to join us through their regular email. Stories aren’t presented one at a time. They are all entries on the board. Nor can we offer a slider to rate a submission. Instead we vote through a poll function.

But everything else needed for a community is in place. Except for one thing.

Come join us at

  1. Awesome. 😀 If no one else wants to help with the graphics, I’ll volunteer.

I might also be able to play with the forum layout/template, but I’ve never used SMF boards from the back-end before, so I’d have to learn how it’s set up. Soooo, yeah, you can call on me as a last resort LOL.

  2. And I didn’t mean to call on me as a last resource because it would be inconvenient to me. I’d be happy to do any of these things– I like tweaking websites. It’s just that if someone else is better qualified, I don’t want to hog the job! 🙂

  3. Graphics? Did someone say graphics?!!! *ears perking* YES we could use some help with it. ChrisJournal and I were tossing out some ideas. We thought of maybe some books fanned out or a book with the pages open like a fan.

I know diddly squat about the tech stuff. You’ll have to talk to ChrisJournal for that.

Can I make you a moderator?

  4. What I really wish I had was one of those buttons you can put on your web site like what Avon offered. Only in our new FanLit Forever graphic.

  5. I can do the buttons, definitely. 😀 Books fanned out or books with pages open, hmm? I think I can do that. I was thinking about graphics like Avon had, some chick-ish stuff, or something like writing in notebooks, typing, old-fashioned manuscripts, etc…

You can also change the colors/style of the boards to go with the banner graphic, that’s what I was thinking about with the templates.

And sure, I’d love to be moderator. I’ll try not to go on a power trip. 😛

  6. And thus it is so. You are now a high poohbah on FanLit Forever. Check out your status on the board.

  8. Thanks Pam. I’m kind of blown away. I’ve never done anything so cool on the internet before.
