What a Rush

Filed under: Writing Life — aliceaudrey @ 2:46 am

I was over on FanLit, doing my civic duty by voting on the submissions when I realized there are authors hovering around the board, waiting for my input.  Mine!  Of course they don’t know it was me who gave the score and/or made the comment, but so what?  I can have an impact on someone’s life Right This Minute.

So different from the deep and delving critiques I do for RWA contest judging.  I might have a bigger impact, but it will take place weeks down the road.  For FanLit I don’t have to do near as much work, and get the sense of immediacy.  It’s almost like Avon again.

Cool

  1. Cool!

I know I enjoyed being just a reader this time around — I felt like I was giving a little bit back.

Looking forward to seeing which chapter gets to carry forward (and hoping that many of the other chapters over there carry forward in their author’s WIP piles!)

  2. Thanks for voting, Pam. This was a one-hit wonder deal. I’m hoping people will carry their stories forward in the WIP forum, but our next challenge is to write a single thing – chapter or story – with a Holiday theme. Unless the 6-chapter challenge catches up in the pole. I’m kind of hoping for the 6-chapter thing for the third challenge.

    Confused yet? *grin*

  3. I guess I didn’t realize that when I read them — I guess I didn’t pay enough attention to what the setup was (I know I voted for the 6-chapter novella). Either that or I was “lost in the Avon Fanlit World”

I’ll have to see if I can dedicate a few brain cells to a holiday short — but even if I don’t write, I’ll read and vote!
