Shoe Bonding

Filed under: Day to Day Life — aliceaudrey @ 8:00 pm

I don’t get this thing about women bonding while shopping.  I’ve seen it in a variety of Romance novels, and I still don’t get it.  I don’t bond with friends while shopping.  I lose them.

Seriously, I don’t like hitting the department stores and boutiques have a tendency to snob me out.  Unless you’re talking second-hand, and I’m talking Goodwill here, not Retro Fashions, you aren’t going to catch me buying clothing let alone shoes.

Yet I have managed to bond with my mother over shoes.  So has my daughter.  Not from BUYING them with her, from stealing them from her.

I don’t generally have nice shoes around.  I live in my crocs, clogs, running shoes, and hiking boots.  What more could a girl need?  Someone to borrow from on New Years Eve.

Mom gave me a ton of shoes she no longer wears.  I’m thinking I need to give a couple pair back, just so I can steal them next time I visit.

What about you?  Do you bond over shopping?  What is that about, anyway?

  1. I don’t get it either! Then again, I don’t get the shoe thing either! I must be missing those genes!

  2. It’s like, what, just because I’m female I’m supposed to want to shop with someone? I’m not that kind of female. I don’t generally run off to the bathroom with anyone either.

  3. I’m a grab ‘n go kind of shopper. I go in with a plan and buy what I need, and once I’m done, I hit the bookstore, which is where I shop for FUN. The other kind of shopping is more of a chore for me.

  4. Okay…I’ll admit that I bond with my mother when I’m shopping…but you have to understand, SHE BUYS ME CLOTHES. It’s the coolest thing. We go in, I say “oh, isn’t this cute/darling/classy”. She says “Oh, go try it on”…I do…I love it….then, on the way to the cash register she grabs it from me and pays for it!

How could I not bond with her.

Now…if you’re not buying me anything…I DON’T want to shop with you!

  5. I **hate** shopping! Especially when I’m with someone else. I like to go, get what I need, and get out. Online shopping is my favorite kind.

  6. At least I’m not alone.

    Ericka, you lucky duck.

  7. I use to go shopping with my daughter all the time but my guilty secret is that I always brought a book. She would see someone she knew and I would tell her to go on ahead and I would find the nearest bench and read until she got back. Worked perfectly for both of us!

  8. I’m not a bonder either. I would never go shopping with my daughter (long story), and my mother, bless her heart, would hover and either verbally or “telepathically” let me know that what I was buying cost too much or that I didn’t really need it. Turn me loose by myself, and I’ll get everything on my list and then cruise around for a bit just looking. And as for the bathroom thing, I’ve never understood why you have to have a tinkle partner. Not me. Apparently I’m the lone duck when it comes to stuff like that and I like it that way.
